Tech Coaching Secrets of Success

The tech coach provides a valuable service to an increasingly tech-saturated public. Those who find themselves stumped or frustrated about integrating new technologies into their home, business, organization or personal life can seek out a tech coach to get them up to speed. Three key secrets to success can take you a long way:

1. Clients Love Simplicity

While it may be tempting to "wow" your clients with heady concepts and lots of tech jargon, the truth is that clients prefer and appreciate plain-spoken, down to earth language. Try and become adept at explaining things in simple, user-friendly ways.

2. Clients Need Compassion and Respect

While you are a tech expert and you command a certain amount of admiration, you're not entitled to arrogance. Never, ever talk down to a client or make them feel inadequate for not understanding something, even the most basic concept. Cultivate compassion for those who find technology a mystery. Put yourself in their shoes; think of an area where you struggle, and know that your tech coaching clients feel the same way about technology. Be gentle with tech-phobic people, and they will become loyal clients.

3. A Little Humor Goes a Long Way

Know ahead of time that some of your clients will be highly anxious during their initial sessions. One of the best ways to diffuse this anxiety is to put them at ease as they get to know you. Inject some humor into your lessons; tell a joke or two. Make it entertaining! Be genuine and direct, but let a bit of your personal side shine through. Try and make your sessions fun, and your clients will reward you with return business.
