Successful Coaching Practices

Relationship coaching can be one of the most rewarding types of coaching; healthy, happy relationships are key to true fulfillment in life, and assisting people in achieving them is one of the most fulfilling ways to help people. However, not every coaching relationship yields the results the client was hoping for. Here are 5 secrets for success that every relationship coach should know:

1. Trust is paramount. First and foremost in the coach-client relationship is trust, especially in relationship coaching. Without a core foundation of trust, it will be difficult for the client to follow your guidance and make progress. The best way to cultivate trust is to coach from the most genuine, sincere place in yourself - the part that is compassionate and loves seeing people succeed.

2. Unconditional love is key. Allow a connection with unconditional love to inform all that you do when working with coaching clients - it is the most powerful force in the universe. If a commitment to unconditional love isn't a primary reason you've become a relationship coach, you might be in the wrong field.

3. Know thyself. Most everyone is a "work in progress" to some degree or another, and this includes relationship coaches. Even those who are highly successful usually have some weak points, and there's always room for growth and improvement. Be aware of your own weaknesses, triggers and the places where your ego trips you up; continue to "tend to your own garden" even as you're coaching others.

4. Your own experiences can help others. How have you made significant relationship breakthroughs in your own life? What did you learn? How did you integrate the changes and make them your new reality? Drawing from your own personal relationship growth experiences can be of great help when assisting clients.

5. Sharing real-world success stories. How have people you know, including past clients, made significant breakthroughs to better relationships? You can keep the names confidential, but don't hesitate to share relevant success stories. Success breeds success, and your clients will draw great inspiration from those who have succeeded in the ways they are striving to.
